YAMAHA G3 GRAND PIANO

I have a ute to transport the piano 1000 km. Can I lay the piano on it's base on the tray of the ute once we have it outside?
Reply Yes: Use plenty of blankets to cushion the base and sides.
Assume you will have to emergency stop - so pack the bulk head end well. Strap it down carefully / lightly (using padding) under ratchet straps so it cannot bounce, and satisfy yourself it is properly protected from penetrating dust and rain. It could be a good investment to buy some new heavy duty plastic sheet which you can trust not to have any holes. Wrap the piano only after loading it on the van... That way you can watch the piano's edges better, your grip wont slip, nor the sheet tear.
It should repay you to take time to read our piano moving tips.
Later edit and caveat The above advice is not recommended best practice! The above self mover will do well to avoid damaging his piano since he is unlikely to have the right tools (trolleys / piano shoe) or experience... However people moving their own pianos are at liberty to take risks with their property which a paid professional cannot: Some scratches or dents are often of no concern to piano owners in the course of a self move, especially when the savings may be huge; but would cost a pro mover hundreds of dollars in repairs were he to take casual liberties.
