exporting "dangerous" sports equipment
QuestionI mailed sports darts (the board kind) to the USA from Spain. Would they have been a forbidden item to enter the USA.?
Reason: Mailed on the 8th January and not delivered to Middleton Wisconsin yet (3 weeks later).
AnswerI am not really qualified to say: except that this page:
TSA air travel / permitted / prohibited items reveals that both sports arrows and martial arts throwing stars are acceptable if checked into hold luggage of aircraft.
However, my own experience has been for example: When exporting a clients' boxed private household goods to Moscow with DHL by airfreight, that DHL went through the boxes and refused the kitchen knives. I suspect that they may make use of available baggage space on commercial carriers, and apply strict rules to keep agents, airlines or authorities sweet.
So... there is the possibility of a carrier being overcautious, and it would be advisable to check with your proposed handler...some items might be more reliably sent by sea.
