Get your own insurance cover so there is no third party between you and any claim. If you are unfortunate enough to suffer a loss, You are likely to be settled faster and more satisfactorily if you have taken out your own insurance.

Removers will carry various insurances, But the UK insurance market for personal property is difficult. Removers may be bound not to admit liability by their insurer:- It is for the insurance company to determine who is liable, just as in road accident claims.

Your remover will have a statutory duty of care for your property. You may also have a right to claim negligence against a remover. However removal services can only be expected to offer a low price so long as they are not threatened by unreasonable claims.

Self packed goods are not normally covered by removers, and the depreciated value of your property may not be the same as their replacement cost.

It is usual for there to be an 'excess' clause in the conditions of carriage of any remover, meaning that they will not accept liability for the initial amount of any claim (often the first £100).
